A few days ago, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced the launch of a new series of low-impedance, automotive-grade miniature aluminum electrolytic capacitors — 172 RLX, with higher performance than previous-generation solutions and a reduced form factor. Vishay BCcomponents 172 RLX series capacitors have a ripple current up to 4.9 A, can operate at a high temperature of +105 °C, and have a service life of up to 10,000 hours. They are available in 14 form factors from 10 mm x 12 mm to 18 mm x 40 mm.

Compared with the previous generation of solutions, the recently released capacitors are AEC-Q200 compliant, with smaller form factors, lower device impedance and higher capacity for a given package and voltage, and lower ripple current at the same rated capacitance-voltage (CV). Increased by 54%. For example, the previous generation solution 1000 mF/10 V rated CV device has a ripple current of 1100 mA in a 10 mm x 16 mm package, and the 172 RLX series capacitors have a ripple current of 1700 mA in a 10 mm x 12 mm package. As a result, designers can use fewer components, increasing design flexibility and saving board space.172 RLX series capacitors with radial leads, blue sleeve insulated cylindrical aluminum case, with pressure relief device, rated voltage up to 50 V, capacities from 150 μF to 15 000 μF, impedance as low as +20 °C 0.011 W. Capacitors have anti-charging and discharging functions.

 

As polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitors with non-solid electrolyte, these RoHS-compliant devices are suitable for use in switching power supplies, DC/DC converters, motor drives in industrial, automotive, communications, audio-video, electronic data processing (EDP) applications , smoothing, filtering and buffering of the control unit.

Samples and production quantities of the 172 RLX series capacitors are available now with lead times of eight weeks.
